The burgeoning worldwide family of autism-related Lions Clubs just got bigger with the birth of the Melbourne Autism Lions Club!
For such a momentous occasion it was only proper that SACLC, the first Autism Lions Club in Australia, provided support for MALC’s Charter Night by sending our Secretary (Tom) down south to comely Club Kilsyth in semi-bucolic Bayswater North to join in with the festivities.
The Charter Night was very well attended, with Lions representing clubs from all over Melbourne, including MALC’s sponsor club, Box Hill Lions. Applause was given when it was mentioned by the Master of Ceremonies that SACLC was in attendance!
It was a pleasant evening, with a three course dinner featuring an all-important Lions cake for dessert, speeches from Russell, the Club President, Pat, their Guiding Lion and the V5 District Governor amongst other people, and of course, the pomp and ceremony of presenting the nascent Club with its paraphernalia as well as the induction of the Charter Members.
It was indeed an honour to have met each and every one of the 24 members of the newest Lions Club in District 201V5, to hear about their planned projects and to share with them some of SACLC’s initiatives as well.
We wish MALC every success in their endeavours and we hope that, in the years to come, we can forge a powerful working relationship to help improve the lives of autistic people, not just in our respective districts, but also throughout Australia.
Special thanks to representatives of the Eltham Lions Club for driving our Secretary back to his hotel. He will be more than happy to return the favour!
