Brazilian Blue Angels and Australian Heroes of the Ocean

At this month’s meeting, we were privileged to have not one, but TWO very special guests!

Our first guest was Matheus, a proud member of the Lions Clube Bauru Autismo, an Autism Lions Club that is based in the city of Bauru, in São Paulo State, Brazil. Matheus, who is a professional with two autistic sons, told us about some of the good works his club has done including raising funds for transporting local autistic children to therapy sessions. We wish Bauru Autismo every success in all their endeavours. The Autism Lions movement truly has become an unstoppable, worldwide phenomenon!

We also had Eliza from Ocean Heroes, a Perth-based charity that aims to improve the wellbeing of those on the autism spectrum and their families through surfing. Ocean Heroes are looking to expand their surfing programmes for autistic people of all ages to other cities around Australia and in fact ran two sessions at Bondi Beach here in Sydney in July, which Eliza said had about 50 attendees – a phenomenal result, despite the inclement weather! We wish Ocean Heroes all the best as well.

Do come along to our monthly meetings – you never know who might show up!
